Cultural event
Hello again. I hope you recognize me because I am bringing back some adventure. Okay enough of that. I have always wanted to try an African dance. You maybe wonder which dance I am talking about. Well some Africans live in the country side. And they don't live in houses or flats. Instead they live in huts. By the end of the day you know after dinner or whatever they dance with fire and playing the drums. It looks very cool and it seems your having a great time.
I'm not saying that Africans who live in the country side live in some huts.
Just about outside Durban there were villages with some huts. And of course I didn't travel by myself, I got a friend with me who knows this place from the hotel. And we took a car. Anyway It is a really big difference here. In order to get food they have to hunt animals or even farm their own food said the guy from the hotel. The whole village was full with these huts. And everywhere you saw mothers making stuff like clothes for their own children. They did have different type of clothes, it almost looked as if they only had a blanket as a suit. But yeah it must be hard time making these. It was very hot and this area was in a desert.
I was able to meet the leader of this village and he didn't speak English. Luckily the guy from the hotel could translate whatever he said. But then all of sudden I got scared. Because the leader said we must hunt a big animal for lunch. I was like WHAT? HOW? I CAN’T DO THAT. But I ended up doing it, in other words I had to.
We were like ten people that hunted. I had to take all of my clothes and wear my pants. That was all. And I also had to hold a spear. Most of the other guys had a spear to but some had bow and arrows. Now the hunting begins. I had no idea what this was going to turn out. In fact I shake my whole body because I was so very nervous.
The first thing I noticed was these fellows was VERY fast and they didn't need to stop to have break. They didn't find this hard at all. I on the other hand was the last and the slowest one. I thought that this was on of the toughest thing I’ve done. I come to think of that this very good for your body and your health. I mean you exercise all the time and you get very strong and very fast. After a long time we finally got a big bull. I didn't do anything really because I was so tired and I had to breathe for like 70 years. But I saw them catching the animal and it wasn't even a challenge for them. It felt as we had run for like three hours or something. I was so exhausted that I couldn’t stand up and wave my hand.
But don't worry about me, I felt much better after getting lunch and --rest. We had plenty of meat to dinner as well so that was good too.
Time passed quickly. It was already after dinner. It was the time for dancing. It was nearly the same thing with the hunting because I had to wear the same clothes but they also painted me in the face and on my body in black and white color. Everybody else painted themselves as well. Then the dancing begun and wow, it wasn't like dancing in a ballet. It was totally crazy. But fun at the same time. We sang and put in fire and some drummed while dancing. It was going on and on the whole time. This must mean a lot to them, because you get very happy when you do this. We ended up dancing for hours. And I got to say, It was the best dancing I have ever had.
Family life
Hello again. Well anyway I know that South Africa has some interesting background. My mother told me that white and black people weren't allowed to sit on the same bench, or in the same bus and things like that. It was called like apartheid. Really weird though I mean just because I have a different skin means I am stupid or less worth. Wow really? And they thought that white people were more valuable.
Bloody idiots. Awell of course I want to know more about apartheid and also how they live here. It must be a big difference between Sweden. So the best way is to look for a family that has lived here for many years.
I walked down to Durban to look for a family that I could have a chat with. So I went to the first flat that I saw. I knocked on some doors. Because some people weren't interested in me when I presented myself. Anyway as I said after three doors a family let me in. They had three children. Sounds a bit lot to me. Well the children's parents sat down with me and we immediately started talking.
They told me that some people are very rich and some other live in home lands. It's very different. It depends where you live and how you live. People that live in home lands are very poor. And they don't have enough money for education for jobs. They may not have money for food or clothes for the children as well. The big problem here which I have heard is aids in South Africa. Many people have died from it and it's very affective. Many children lose their parents and they can be homeless. Or perhaps their grandma takes care of them. But she might not have enough money as well.
I mentioned about the apartheid. And they say that white people had more power here before and even now. They basically just made up rules that white and black people weren't allowed to be together. I'm just thinking to myself how could you come up with that. White are very rich in South Africa apparently. Because they have more power. You know they own more land and companies.
In Sweden you have never had a colony, but it was a poor country before the Second World War. The reason why we became rich is because we weren't in the Second World War and we had a lot of resources. And so we sold many things to Europe. So in a way Sweden got rich because of the Second World War. It's funny if you think about it.
South Africa hasn't had a nice history really. It's very tragic. And I must say I'm very lucky to live in Sweden. I wonder really how South Africa is going to turn out in the future.

Being a Tourist
So today I decided to travel to Kruger National Park. Because I think that animals are quite interesting. You know, how they live, how they look like and such. They say that it's the best safari experience. Only problem though it could take a while to get there. And I am not a huge fan for traveling threw cars. Anyway first of i had to get to Johannes burg witch takes about five hours to get there. I had to get there because i had to hire a car and a guide for Kruger National Park. Because I don't want to get there alone. It feels more safer, and I may not get the best view if I did not bring a guide with me.
Well yeah from Johannes burg it takes about the same time, five hours. Okay so what really amazed me when I first come to the park is the smell. It's not the smell when you take a walk threw the lake or whatever. It smelled very strong but not in a bad way.
The whole park is about two million hectares big. One hectare is about as big as a football field.
So once we passed the gate in the park we wanted to have a bit of a rest first and have some food. So we made up a camp for the night. It was late as well so it was almost bed time. When I was about sleep inside the camp I heard something that I didn't really expect. I could hear a roaring beast not far from here. I think it could be lion. What a powerful sound.
Next morning I had some breakfast and told the guide about the roaring beat that went on last night. He said it's normal and it is a beautiful sound. I totally agreed. After breakfast we took the car and finally he would show me the park.
The park is HUGE and it's filled with bughlifé and sand. Suddenly the guide stopped the car and pointed out. I could see something that I have never seen before. The big five he told me. The big five is a big amount of animals. Like elephants, lions, rhinos, cape buffalo. You could also see gorillas giraffes as well. Wow incredible. A nice point of view with some big trees at the background. I wonder really how they all think. And what nollege they have. I think they are smarter then us. Or they have a better nollege. And also they don't have to worry about work or money and things like that. They just live there lives.
We have been here for three days now and it was really cool. Sometimes you could see lions fight each other a bit. They really showed there wrath and mussels. Same with the rhinos. I saw a bit fighting with the rhinos and there horn looked so powerful that it could break a house or something.
Holiday
Greetings, well as you may heard I said that I will write about my trip to South Africa. For me it seemed pretty interesting place to live in. I decided to go to this place called Durban witch apparently is at the very east side of South Africa. I went for a hotel called Southern Sun North Beach Durban Hotel. The hotel was really particularly nice. I didn't really expect that much from it because the pictures on the internet didn't really look very special. But yeah like I said it was very lovely and you just felt so calm when you relaxed on the sofas or the beds. The hotel had five star as well.
And not only that I had a brilliant view from the balcony. You just felt that you could see the whole beach.
After a good night sleep I was on my way to get myself some breakfast. The breakfast was lovely. you could choose whatever you want. I always like to take big amounts of breakfast. Like baguettes, fruits, corn flakes with yoghurt and all sourth of things. The pools was just amazing to just cool off. And even taking a swim on the beach was also very nice. The temperature here is very hot like like 30C so it's no point to take your jacket with you I tell you that. The best thing tho is the dinner table. Because I was just amazed about how the tables and the chairs looked, and I really wonder how they could manage to build the whole room. It really felt that you were rich.
Anyway let's get to the point. Today is the 16 of June. Wich means it's one of South Africans public holidays. In 1975 a protest started to begin in Africans schools. They say that the students were treated very badly. In 1976 more and more people gather together to stop this. This day is very special for them because they showed that they didn't want any harm just peace.
You can celebrate this day by eating some food that you might don't eat every day, but instead you are making it by yourself. Like making your own pizza, your own ice cream for example. And you can even try to guess what item you are smelling while having your eyes closed. Also try different types of fruit.
Yeah that's pretty much it for the youth day celebration. I mean I am sure that many other people celebrate it in a different way. We have a thing in Sweden tho called Midsommar afton. Wich is in June as well. Well on that day many Swedish people dresses up in some weird costumes and dances
around in some south of mids sommar pole. While dancing you sing some different songs and holding hands. Sounds a bit silly but nevermind. After the dance you often celebrate with some cake.
